please, help stop a festival taking me to court

Donation protected
In good faith i produced an event for an arts council-funded, London-based festival, and one month later they’re threatening me with a CCJ (county court judgment).

I naively signed a contract for a “loan”, to pay for artist flights, accommodation and venue hire for an event at their festival. They now want this “goodwill gesture” loan plus various other artist transportation costs and a small claims court charge paid by 4th February. This amount totals £1959.15 - which I don’t have.

The festival won’t accept any liability for losses on the show - charging me for the full amount, on top of more than £1000 I’ve already sunk into their arts council-funded festival.

I was invited to produce an event for them. I am not a funded organisation, and I did not ask to be part of their festival. I expect nothing in return for the months of time, work, and money I put into the show, but I also expect not to be charged for the cost of the event itself - plus all its incurred losses.

If I cannot pay this amount by Feb 4th i will have a court judgement against me that could affect me for many years to come. This is my final resort, and I’m hoping that the goodwill of a scene I love and contribute to will help me avoid this outcome.
