On December 1st Steven Bishop woke up having a heart attack! That's crazy, right? He is only 44 years old! I was in shock; could not wrap my head around it. There was no pain shooting down his left arm. No pain radiating up his neck and jaw. It was nothing like what you see on TV at all. He just had an emmense pain from the center of his chest to the center of his back and he had trouble drawing a breath.
So; we went to the emergency department. Several hours and tests, scans and labs later it was official he was indeed in cardiac distress and had suffered a heart attack.
After undergoing angioplasty we were told he had multiple blockages in 4 arteries; he would have to have a quadruple bypass. Open heart surgery!
Of course the only thing that mattered was getting the surgery done as soon as possible and getting on the road to recovery; which he has been a total rock star at! They had told us he would be on a ventilator for 24 hours after surgery; he came off within 6! We were told he would be in the CVICU for three days; he stepped down from ICU in 2. Within two days of his surgery, Steven was up walking around the unit, trying to eat solids, going to the restroom and tolerating the pain like a champ! He has some determination, that's for sure!
His determination to recover was set by the thought that he could not let this keep him down. He has a family to take care of and he had to get past this huge obstacle and get back to taking care of business.
Here is where I need your help. He needs home health after he leaves the hospital but here's the catch. Out of the 4 home health agencies in our area, 3 of them do not accept his insurance and the 4th agency does not cover Green County at all. This means that the home health he requires after leaving the hospital will have to be paid completely out of pocket.
This husband of mine is so stubborn and fearful of not being able to take care of his family that he will end up not completely following doctors orders. He will go too fast and rush the healing process and in doing so, could cause himself to have another heart attack.
To heal properly and get back to 100%, Steven needs to be able to focus on just doing that, healing. Not stressing being off of work for 8-12 weeks, not stressing how we will pay the bills that keep the household running. Not worrying about how we will manage to pay the massive cost the care that he NEEDS.
So I am asking for your help, in order to put his mind at ease so that he can do what needs to be done most of all... get better, heal his heart and not put himself at further risk of having another heart attack.
Please donate and/or share this with others. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, my husband thanks you, our children and granddaughters thank you.
