We (Steven's family) are reaching out to everyone today to ask for your help with critical funds to help Steven Fergusson with his medical necessities.
Here is his journey thus far:
Steven was diagnosed just before Labour Day, 2024, with pancreatic cancer which has metastasized to both lungs. Due to the pancreatic cancer, Steven had surgery on September 5, 2024 to open up the blocked pancreatic duct and insert a stent. On October 9th, 2024 he had to undergo another surgery to increase the size of the stent. After this time, Steven went through several biopsies to determine the type of pancreatic/lung cancer, in order to determine the best standards of care (which type of chemotherapy was needed). Once this was established, Steven was given a port line and on October 22, 2024, chemotherapy started. In January 2025, Steven needed the stent replaced once again. Steven has been on chemotherapy for over 6 months, but not without problems. In and above the typical symptoms of ongoing and aggressive chemotherapy, Steven developed several blood clots in his port line and is now given daily injections to ensure they do not travel to his heart, lungs or brain.
As if this isn't enough, Steven has had one more HUGE hurtle to deal with these past 8 months. He has had to travel 5-6 hours each way from his tiny town to the hospital in Thunder Bay where he is seen for the majority of his tests and treatments. Sometimes this has meant multiple trips in one week or costly stays in Thunder Bay, not to mention, lots of exhaustion and fatigue. The cost to Steven for accommodations, food, gas, etc has caused extreme and dire financial stress resulting in difficulty with paying bills. His monthly ODSP (disability benefit) is not enough to cover his monthly expenses.
After many consultations between Steven, his Dr's, and family, it has been determined to be in his best interest to move to London, Ontario where additional family and friends can help, and he can be MUCH closer to a hospital, Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre, for his cancer care. This will put an end to the lengthy drives, the extra hotel rooms, the numerous tanks of gas, while allowing him to heal without stress. But he needs financial help to make this move, as he is barely financially surviving at this point.
So we, his family, are asking for donations to help Steven's medical journey: to help him pay his bills and get him to London for his continued cancer treatment.
Steven is very grateful for anything you are able to contribute! We are hoping for the best outcome; cancer that is in full remission and a longer life for Steven!
Anything helps,
With deepest gratitude and thanks!
