Hi, my name is Joe Suppa. This Go Fund Me is being established for my friend and amazing neighbor Steve Connett. Please find below words from his wife Sharyn and please consider helping them.
My name is Sharyn Connett. I'm writing this about my wonderful, beautiful husband Steve Connett. We live on a 20 acre ranch on the north shore of Mono Lake, CA. We started to build on our property in 1982 and we moved there in 1986. We have had a wonderful life. We built everything ourselves and our house is totally off-grid.
On October 2, 2025, at around 4:30 P.M., we were going to make dinner and Steve was really tired. I suggested that he go lie down while I make dinner. Moments later I heard him mumbling. I thought he was talking in his sleep. I went into the bedroom and asked him what he was saying, but he didn't stop mumbling. I thought he was talking in his sleep. He was very confused and I couldn't help him.
I told him I was going to call 911 and he said, "No!" I knew something was terribly wrong, so I called 911. Calling 911 was the best thing I could have done and I believe I may have saved his life. The ambulance came and so did the Mono City and Lee Vining Fire departments.
They got Steve into the ambulance and took him to Mammoth Hospital. Steve was then flown to Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada. Steve has had a massive hemorrhagic stroke.
Steve cannot move his right side. He will need to be able to walk before he comes home. He is going to need physical therapy and a speech therapist. Right now we don't know how the stroke has affected his brain. We don't know when he can return to work. There are so many unanswered questions..
We live 150 miles from Reno. We will need help with medical item Medicare doesn't cover and with gas money, so I can visit him. I can't leave this property and stay in Reno while he gets better because we have animals and winter is coming.
This is the most horrible and terrifying thing we have every gone through. I pray that God will heal him and maybe we can see a miracle and that he will be able to walk again, so he can come home. Thank for you for considering helping us.
