Support Stark the Shiba’s Surgery!

On January 17th, 2022 Stark ran off from Cranbury Park while his sitters were watching him.  Stark’s owners Stephanie & Ertis were out of the country on vacation when he went missing.

Stark is a 4-year-old Shiba Inu who wasn’t familiar with the Norwalk area as he and his parents live in the Bronx. His parents were devastated as the temperatures dropped below freezing and were worried sick when he still wasn’t found before we got hit with the huge snow storm that accumulated approximately a foot of snow! Even after all that, Stark’s parents still never lost hope.

On February 3rd, the owners received a call from the Wilton Police Dept with the wonderful news that they had found Stark! After being missing for 17 days, a Good Samaritan called Wilton PD to inform them of a dog laying in front of a garage at their apartment complex on Danbury Road.

While Stark was finally found and safe, it was very noticeable that he had lost a significant amount of weight, he was limping and was not putting weight on his back left leg.

Shortly after their happy reunion, Stark’s owners brought him to a local veterinarian hospital to receive medical attention right away. They were referred to MedVet by several local dog owners and Vet offices.

Stark was welcomed and cared for by a wonderful team at MedVet. There he had full panel of blood work done and X-rays done on his injured leg as well as the rest of his body to ensure he didn’t have any internal bleeding (which luckily he did not!)

The radiographs revealed comminuted fracture of his left tibia and fibula. Recommended surgical repair but can splint if this is not an option, however I worry he will develop progressive limb atrophy and an angular limb deformity. Discussed his fracture with our surgeon and surgical correction will give him the best chance of healing- since the fracture already is "healing" we likely will not get perfect alignment, however can optimize healing and minimize time in a splint.

We were thrilled to be reunited with him and took him to receive medical attention right away. He was limping and looked like he hadn’t eaten in weeks. The animal hospital performed a couple of tests on him and took some x-rays which identified his fracture on his foot, which will require surgical repair. We paid $1275.28 for that first visit, and we received the surgery estimate which was up to $6300 plus physical therapy charges. We are hoping to raise $10,000 to cover all medical expenses.

If you feel more comfortable and would like to donate towards Stark’s surgery directly to the Vet office, please see the information regarding Stark’s vet office and his account info.
