My sister, Stacey, has rheumatoid arthritis, that was diagnosed when she was only 15 years old. She has bravely faced all medical challenges while trying to be a great mom to her three girls. Stacey remains upbeat and positive through it all. She has had 11 surgeries already at 54 years old, 4 just in the last 6 years. Stacey must have a second spinal fusion surgery in 3 weeks. Hopefully, this surgery will repair damage to her lower back and enable her to walk normally again, reduce the extreme pain she is in, and improve her quality of life. Stacey will be out of work for 6 – 8 weeks with no income for most of that time with 3 teenage girls to support. Her health care plan has an $8,500 out-of-pocket maximum that she must pay in advance to the hospital to even have the surgery while still struggling to pay off her last 2 surgeries.
