For anyone that is not familiar with the term Mental Health Awareness. Please do some research and know that it is SO real and can be very detrimental if not caught early enough to get treatment. Sharing my daughter's story is not easy by any means, however, if it saves the life of a young teen going through tough times....it was well worth it.
From a very young age, So'nai has been put through many trying times and situations. She was diagnosed at the age of 10 with depression, anxiety, ADD, and abandonment issues. So'nai has grown to be a very strong , yet SILENT young lady.
She experienced a very terrible "thing" at the age of 13, and this intensified the SILENCE. Within the last year, her mental health has suffered tremendously and we have been through several therapists, group therapy, psychiatrists, and medications.
To no avail, So'nai was not getting better, she was getting worse. In January 2021, she was placed in a Partial Hospitalization Program at a local Behavioral Center which allowed her to come home each night. Although, after being in the program only three days, she was admitted to full residential at the most intense level of precaution. So'nai receives several hours of therapy a day at this time and is still not making much progress due to the instability of her thoughts.
I think each day that if I had only done something sooner. However, she is in a safe place and will hopefully start healing soon.
Currently, my insurance only approved one day of treatment of less than 24 hours. The max possible out-of-pocket for the treatment So'nai is receiving could be $11,000.
So'nai has been in the facility since January 27th and we are not certain just how long she will remain there as they are having trouble getting her thoughts stabilized. She gets one 20 minute phone call a night, one zoom call for an hour once a week, and that is all the contact I have with her. It tears me apart inside each day that goes by knowing she is so unstable and that when I speak to her she is very sad and tired.
Please join me in spreading the news of Mental Health Awareness. Watch your children, monitor what they are doing, and love them as much as you can!
I am asking for any type of support at to help So'nai heal.
Thank you for reading our story.
