Our sweet little rescued Pomeranian Smokey needs to be seen by a cardiologist in order to accurately diagnose his heart disease. He then can receive the right medication and proper care so he can keep smiling and wagging and sharing his love with us and the world!
Dear friends, family, and fellow dog lovers,
I'm reaching out today with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit to ask for your help for our beloved dog, Smokey. Smokey is a 13-year-old black and tan Pomeranian with a huge personality packed into a small body. For nearly a decade, he's been a loyal companion, best friend, and source of unconditional love. He’s been living a wonderful life.. from being rescued wandering the streets of Santa Rosa to living in the lap of love and affection. Now he needs help — and we can’t do this alone.
Pomeranians have quite a long life span, and it’s common for them to live till 16. Despite his age, Smokey is remarkably active and full of life. People guess he’s about five! He’s alert, energetic, and has the kind of puppy-like curiosity that still makes people stop and smile. Whether it’s going for hikes at Foothills Park, playing with his stuffed toys and riding in the car his head out the window. He even enjoys paddleboarding, perched proudly at the front of the board, ears in the wind, taking it all in with joy and curiosity. Smokey lives life with joy and enthusiasm. He absolutely loves people and charms everyone he meets — truly, people fall in love with him instantly. His sweet face, bright eyes, and affectionate nature make him unforgettable.
But right now, Smokey needs our help.
He’s recently been diagnosed with serious heart disease. While he’s still active and showing so much spirit, this conditions is potentially life-threatening if not treated. Smokey urgently needs to see a veterinary cardiologist, get chest x-rays, and to begin medications and treatment that will allow him to continue enjoying life — and staying by our side.
The total cost for his diagnostics and treatment is expected to be around $3,000, possibly more, depending on what the cardiologist finds. I’ve already taken on $1,300 of Care Credit Smokey debt this year and certainly can’t take on more. It’s an overwhelming expense, but it’s one that could make all the difference in giving Smokey another couple of years or more of vibrant, happy life — time we aren’t ready to lose, and we know he’s not either. At one point, I was sobbing, thinking I was not going to continue to seek medical help and treatment for Smokey because Marty and I just can’t afford it. I then decided to make this GoFundMe, in hopes of keeping this little fuzz ball of joy around for much longer, not only because he makes my heart sing but I can’t bear the thought of his health declining rapidly when he can be helped. It makes me happy to think that Smokey can keep bringing smiles of love and delight to everyone he meets instead of being euthanized sooner rather than later.
That’s why we’re turning to you — our community of friends, animal lovers, and kind souls. If you’re able to give anything — even a small amount — it will go directly toward Smokey’s medical care. And if you can’t donate, please share Smokey’s story. Every bit of support, every kind word, every share makes a difference.
Smokey has given us nearly a decade of love and loyalty. He still wakes up every day excited for what’s ahead, bouncing and smiling, eyes sparkling. With the right care, he has so much more life to live — more walks, more cuddles, more car rides, more love to give.
Thank you, truly, from the bottom of our hearts for helping us give Smokey the chance he deserves.
With love and gratitude,
Maggi , Marty & Smokey ❤️
