Update 9/12/23: Smee came home from the ER on Monday afternoon. Her recovery so far is slow but seemingly steady. She goes to see the cardiologist on Thursday 9/14. We’re still unsure of how much her care will cost us in total, but thanks to the generous donations we’ve received from all of you, in addition to the money we had in our own savings, she was able to spend Friday through Monday in the ER to save her life. The donations have also enabled us to pay for her cardiology consultation which they encouraged us to do ASAP.

We are anxious to learn more about her condition after Thursday’s visit. We want to thank everyone who has donated and shared so far. It’s made such a tremendous difference to us in the horrible situation. I cannot thank you all enough. I will try to keep everyone updated as we learn more.

ORIGINAL TEXT: Esmeralda (Smee) is 4.5 years old and has been in the emergency room since Friday morning. Please help us save our best friend’s life:

After two days, the doctors determined she has heart disease. She has been such a healthy cat, so we’re in complete shock and panic to discover that she is currently fighting for her life.

Smee is so young and we’re beyond devastated at the thought that her chances of recovery are restricted by our financial situation. We’re crushed to think that she could live a much longer life if we just had enough money to stabilize her through this current episode in the ER.

Smee is our therapy animal and she’s been so important to Andrea and me since we first got her. She is the sweetest cat and we look forward to every single day with her. She makes us feel better, no matter how bad life gets. She has such a funny personality, and she loves everyone she meets. We are so heartbroken about her current condition, and we are desperately trying to finance the medical care that has been helping her improve each day.

The bills have quickly exceeded the savings that I have to help her. I don’t know what else to do but ask for support in our time of need.

The doctors believe that once she is more stable from this incident, we’ll be able to keep her condition in check with affordable heart medication and more frequent visits with our regular vet.
