For those of you that have been lucky enough to know or cross paths with Curtis Walker, you know that he was one of best people you could know. A friend to so many & always so willing to help others in any way that he can. Passionate about his career, his family.. kind to everyone.. wears his heart on his sleeve & would give you the shirt off of his back.. For me personally, he has been my best friend for 20+ years. He’s always looked after me & been there for me through the good & the bad throughout my life. Always knows the right words to say, the right things to do, how to put me in my place when I need it.. he’s cheered me on when I needed it the most, he’s wiped my tears when my heart has ached, picked up the pieces & lifted me off the ground when I’ve fallen.. he has truly shown me over the years that I’ve known him what a real friend is & the true meaning of friendship.

Earlier this year, Curtis was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Even as he admitted this to me & shared this news, his main concerns were his family, me & my family.. he tried to help us cope with his diagnosis & assured us all that he wasn’t going anywhere for a long time & he was going to beat this. After being out of work for a month and half after his lung biopsy, when he returned to work, the man didn’t comprehend what light duty meant. He worked 12 hour shifts everyday & refused to slow down because he needed to take care of himself & his family. A couple months ago, while working, a tumor that had been growing on his knee stretched so much that it split open & he had to have emergency surgery to have it removed, followed by a skin graph a week later to close the wound. Since then, he has been unable to walk & has been hospitalized on multiple occasions for different infections. His main goal in all of this was to make it my wedding day. Even after starting his first round of aggressive chemo 4 days before the wedding, learning that his father suddenly had passed away while sitting through chemo (his mother had also passed suddenly less than a year ago) & after fighting me on it, the man showed up with the biggest smile on his face to be there for me on my wedding day. If that’s not true friendship, I don’t know what is. The day after the wedding, he was hospitalized yet again for an infection & is still waiting to be discharged.

Curtis needs some help right now & he’s not one to ask for help or big on accepting it but he is finally admitting that he needs it. Bills are starting to pile up and he has not had any income coming in for awhile now. This is the last thing he needs to be stressing about while he’s fighting to live. It’s been a tough time for so many & there are so many people struggling right now but anyone in the position to help & that is able to donate anything, your donations would mean the world to him, his family & to myself. Even if unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser, reaching out to him with encouraging words, keeping him & his family in your thoughts & prayers & showing your support as he fights through this is appreciated.
