My uncle Shawaan was living a normal, happy life in Bangladesh. He worked hard every day to provide for his family, the only breadwinner in their home and still found time to make everyone around him laugh. But all of that changed the day he was diagnosed with mouth cancer.

By the time they caught it, it had already spread throughout his mouth. Since then, Shawaan has been through countless surgeries and procedures. Each one has taken a piece of him not just physically, but emotionally too. In an effort to save his life, doctors removed large portions of his face and even used skin from his leg to rebuild what they could. He’s been left almost disfigured, fighting to adjust to a reflection that no longer feels like his own.

The cancer stole his smile, his strength, and his ability to work. But it hasn’t taken his will to live. Every day, he faces unbearable pain with quiet courage and a hope that somehow, things will get better.

For his family, the emotional and financial toll has been devastating. With Shawaan unable to work, they’re struggling to cover medical bills, daily expenses, and the ongoing costs of treatment.
