Who Takes Care of Healthcare Workers?
To know Shantee is to know she has dedicated her life to caring for others in their time of need. She has a long standing career working in group homes providing and managing healthcare for patients. This January, even after being quarantined from her children for almost a month, she continued to care for Covid + patients. She is truly a health care hero.
In March 2021, she became exposed to Covid-19 and started experiencing minor symptoms. In the beginning of April, she was suddenly rushed to the hospital, unable to breathe, and has been fighting for her life. She was placed on a ventilator and transferred to a facility 3 hours from her four children in the hopes of getting life-saving Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation treatment (ECMO). Unfortunately, it was determined she is not a candidate. We are still seeking answers about why she is not a candidate. The only reason we were given for not being a candidate was obesity and the 10 days she was on high-flow oxygen.
Since being placed on a ventilator, there has been no significant improvement in her condition. Her children are worried as they have been unable to visit her. They have also been thrusted into maintaining the household finances. This has been challenging and devastating for them.
We are reaching out to ask for your prayers and support We are asking you to share and boost our story’s exposure by retweeting and reposting our page, use our hashtag #shanteecares, and for any monetary donation you can afford to give to help her children reach and exceed their goal.
From the bottom of our hearts, on behalf of our beloved daughter/sister/mother/grandmother, Shantee, we would like to thank you for taking the time to read our story.
