Ok so those of you who know me will probably know that I am a transgender woman and I have been taking steps to medically transition for over a year now, since before I came out as a girl.
You might also know that I suffer from really really extreme dysphoria, and this is kind of a really big deal for me. My face is and always has been one thing I am incredibly insecure about, because I feel that some of my features are way too masculine and make me easily identifiable as transgender, and this has a significant impact on my confidence and ability to work, study, and generally function in society, and this also raises significant concerns for my health and safety when leaving the house.
I have had consultations with a craniofacial surgeon with experience performing Facial Feminisation Surgery for trans women, and I have been given an official quote for just under $25,000AUD to cover the cost of the surgery.
Unfortunately, transgender surgeries are not recognised by Medicare as 'essential' in this country, so I must find a way to raise this money myself.
This is extremely important to me, as I feel that this surgery would have a significant immediate and lifelong impact of my quality of life, my ability to return to regular work, and my overall ability to live, function, feel safe outside the house, feel comfortable with my face and body, and not hate what I see in the mirror every day.
I don't expect much, as I know most people who are sympathetic to this struggle tend to have limited resources themselves, but if you can manage to help at all in any way it would help make a huge difference to my life and I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you for your time, support and understanding.
Sincerely and with much love,
-Senna x
