Selina's surgery to help with her nerve pain

Hello, our friend Iveta's 14-year-old daughter Selina, is suffering from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) which is a rare nerve chronic pain condition. The pain is described  as out of proportion to the severity of her initial injury.

Her initial injury was in the right thumb , 6 years ago. Selina describes her pain as a continuous burning, throbbing, and cutting pain.  As such, she is not able to tolerate the sensation of touch in the affected area or to move her thumb. Her pain is also accelerated by cold and by noise.

Since November 2022, her condition has escalated substantially. Selina’s entire life has been negatively impacted by her condition. She has not been able to attend school fully or engage in extra-curricular activities of any sort. Once a joyful child, she is now barricaded in her room sheltered away from noise and social interaction. She has grown depressed as a result. When she does interact with her family it is at the level of a whisper since every sound is a huge vibrational stimulus to her pain.

Her suffering has been ongoing for many years, despite her family seeking medical assistance from the very best doctors and surgeons in Canada. 

Desperate for a solution to Selina’s pain, her parents have broadened their search for a cure in the United States. They have found a surgeon in Nevada who specializes in treating Selina’s condition.

Iveta travelled to Nevada with Selina in December to have her assessed by nerve surgeon, Dr. Timothy Tollestrup, who is a world-renowned specialist for CRPS.

Dr. Tollestrup, who grew up in British Columbia, has had remarkable success in treating nerve issues. He assessed Selina at his clinic and has determined that she is a candidate for surgery. He strongly believes that her pain can be stopped through his surgical process and technique. 

The estimated cost for the surgery, attending specialists and surgical centre is $34,340.00 Canadian, exclusive of flights, meals and accommodation for the three-day travel to Nevada.
