Hi, my name is Sonia and this is my granddaughter Scarlett. Our precious Scarlett Joy is two years old. She was diagnosed with a type two sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) before she was even born. This rare tumor is an aggressive growing germ cell tumor which included yolk sac carcinoma. When she was born at only 27 weeks old, she had a rare surgery to remove the outer tumor (along with her tailbone), called an EXIT procedure, to save her life. We hoped that had removed all the yolk sac carcinoma, but it did not. Scarlett has had 3 more tumor removal surgeries in two years, removing a total of 8 tumors, the last being in February of 2024. She was unable to receive chemotherapy sooner due to being a micro preemie and being in kidney failure, but her oncologist has recently felt that she is strong enough to start chemotherapy to fight this cancer!

As you can imagine the financial hardship this has been on my son John and his family as he has to take time off work to help with the caregiving and transportation to the hospital.
