On Sunday 27th February Saxon was admitted to Hospital after a CT scan showed he in fact had a Brain Tumour.
On Tuesday 22nd February Saxon had come home from school early as he didn’t have a good day in class refusing to do his work.
Once home Ally started to get his school work out to attempt it with him, Saxon picked up the pencil in his left hand and started to to do his work.
Ally was concerned and confused as Saxon is right handed, he became extremely upset and emotional stating his right arm is “Glitchy “ it doesn’t work!
Once he was calm, Ally called his school to ask if they noticed anything as she explained this is not right!
Ally made numerous calls to Saxon’s therapists to see if this is normal, they all agreed it was definitely not normal.
One of Saxon’s therapists attended his school to observe him in class and she was very concerned, not only was he not able to use his right hand he became very unbalanced on his feet!
Not even 30mins later Ally received a call to come collect him as he fell off his chair, school was concerned!!
Saturday 26th February, Ally and Pete had a appointment with Saxon’s Paediatrician in the morning, once she began some very basic tests she could tell something was not right!!!
Later Saturday night Ally and Pete received a call from his Paediatrician requesting they take him to the Emergency department first thing in the morning as she had been on the phone with the Paediatric team all afternoon and wants tests done immediately.
With Covid only 1 parent was allowed in at a time, so they had to take turns.
Pete helped with Saxon to attend the CT scan while Ally was in the carpark waiting, within 20mins she was called by the hospital paediatrician to come in.
They had already given the upsetting news to Pete, Your son has a brain tumour!
Things moved extremely quick, they admitted Saxon and had a bed ready for him in the childrens ward within 30mins.
They booked a MRI and BLOODS TEST right away for Monday morning.
And by Monday afternoon Surgery was set for Wednesday morning 2nd March.
Tuesday they met with the surgeon to go over their findings of the MRI and what the surgery intales.
Wednesday 2nd March surgery day, Saxon was brought down for a quick MRI at 830am then followed by surgery which finished at 6pm.
Saxon spent the first 24hrs in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit after surgery.
Saxon thankfully hasn’t had to many side effects from the surgery, his right side of his body will need aggressive rehabilitation to function properly again.
Friday 4th March, Ally and Pete met with his surgeon team and they were glad to announce they were able to remove 99.999% of the tumour.
Unfortunately the MRI revealed he has 1 Spec near his lower spinal cord and 2 Specs in his Brain cavity.
Although none of these are attached to anything this is still concerning.
As they wait for the Oncology reports to come back, treatment plans are being prepared.
As this situation is Extremely hard and heartbreaking, it is even more difficult with Saxon’s special needs. He has no understanding of what is happening/happened to him, bringing on meltdowns his parents have never had to deal with or seen before.
Only having 1 parent staying overnight with him, Pete took this head on and endured the hardest and toughest moments with Sax, while Ally is at the hospital daily by 630am and not leaving most nights until 10pm then gathering supplies for them to have at the hospital. They take turns during the day to try and get some much needed sleep and rest as they are beyond exhausted.
With this situation being a 2 person job to settle and take care of Sax, Pete is not working.
As this is only the first step in Saxon’s journey Pete will have to take extra time off to help support Saxon once he starts treatments.
At this difficult time the simple things like bills and costings of safety equipment for their home preparing for when Saxon returns home during treatments are starting to pile on them.
To take some of the unwanted stress away from them so they can focus on Saxon’s health, we ask for your help prayers and support!
Thank you
