Anyone who knows Taylor and me knows that we love all animals. We love and spoil our fur babies fiercely.
After losing Chance and Storm so untimely and so close together last year, Sol came into our lives when we needed her most. She was a shining light in our darkest days, and has been nothing short of perfect ever since we brought her home!
She just turned one on Wednesday 6/2
On Thursday 6/10 Sol had a common spay procedure at 9AM. We picked her up at 3:30PM, received some pain medications for the next few days and were on our merry way. Over the next 48 hours, she showed signs of improvement as to be expected. Saturday evening and all of Sunday, she became disinterested in eating and abnormally lethargic, began throwing up the contents of her stomach, and then bile once she was empty.
On Monday 6/14 we blew the doors open to our vet (who performed the procedure) bright and early upon opening at 8AM, thinking we were looking at a post-op check-up. Upon analyzing a blood panel, it was determined her kidney values were abnormally high. We were not only rushed to the ER, but prioritized...
She spent 5.5 days in the ICU on constant IV fluids and other kidney-supportive, safe medications at the hands of specialists at Blue Pearl. We were absolutely distraught, yet still hoping for the best for our one-and-only.
By Saturday 6/19, she had been on constant IV fluids all week. They had been conducting daily blood panels to monitor her kidney function. Her abnormally high levels had dropped to a point where the hospital felt comfortable enough letting us bring her home with intensive kidney-supporting at-home treatments and numerous trips to our vet to conduct more bloodwork. She was finally able to sleep comfortably at home.
That weekend gave us hope! She began eating/drinking/going potty as normal, and each day she has become more and more like her Husky self! She was prescribed daily 500ml of subcutaneous (under the skin) fluids and four other supportive medications treating an acute kidney injury--- suspiciously a rare adverse reaction to her anesthesia +pain medication concoction in an otherwise perfectly healthy pup.
On Tuesday 6/22 we made an appointment for routine bloodwork and spay suture removal as directed, following those pretty intense at-home treatments (which she has been an absolute CHAMPION about) and they gave us some less-than-desirable news. Her kidney values have risen, despite her aggressive treatments to the best of everyone's ability.
On Friday 6/25, we had another bloodwork appointment. One kidney value has begun to decrease, but her other value has risen even more. She was prescribed another antibiotic, a strict kidney-supportive diet, and now we have to administer 500ml of subcutaneous fluids twice per day- a whole bag each day.
The road to recovery is looking like a marathon when we were hoping for a sprint. She will continue to need bi-weekly blood panels to monitor her kidney function. With daily fluids and a new kidney-supportive diet, it could take weeks to months before we see her kidney values stabilize in the normal range.
Our obvious ultimate goal is to prolong her life maintaining utmost happiness and normalcy.
We have taken weeks away from our jobs, spent every penny in both our accounts and exhausted all lines of credit. At the rate her kidney values are rising, it is likely she may need further hospitalization. To get the care she needs at the hands of the specialists at Blue Pearl, it costs $1,500-$2,000 per 24hrs of care. Unfortunately, that is money we no longer have. The time she has spent in the ICU already has racked up a bill of over $7,000.
Our absolute number one priority is to provide our baby girl with the care she needs to live a long, healthy, happy life!
Any donations made will go towards further medical treatment; including medication, fluids, vet appointments, and future hospitalization.
I will continue to update this page on a weekly basis so everyone can stay up-to-date on how this beautiful little angel is doing.
Thank you in advance to anyone willing to donate and spread the word. Your kindness and generosity means the world to our little family.
With love,
Sol's mom and dad, Kennedy and Taylor
