PLEASE HELP SAVE SIMPKI FROM FATAL FIP
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Angharad and I am trying to raise money for my 9-month-old cat Simpki.
Simpki came into my life in December 2021 after rescuing her from a non-regulated breeder. She was living in really bad conditions, I was told she was neglected by her parents and litter mates because she was small, but it appeared she was neglected by her owners too. When I collected her she had flees, had not been wormed, had not been vaccinated and she was terrified and super shy (more so than a kitten would naturally be). It seemed something had happened to her, but it was clear she needed lots of nurturing as she had not been socialised.
A couple of weeks after bringing her home I found that she had a massive laceration across her back with an infected abcess for being left untreated. She was withdrawn and low, which could be explained by this infection and trauma. The owner denied knowing about this. Something of this scale would have been known to such a tiny cat.
After a course of antibiotics, Simpki was worlds better. Her wound healed and her shy nature transformed into a very loving, cheeky, playful and energetic cat. She is very gentle and a special soul who loves to be around others and I am so proud of how far she has come out of her shell. With lots of love and building of trust, Simpki has learned not to fear everything. She is very brave and loves exploring.
This is why it devastates me that in the last week, I noticed her withdrawn again, hiding, losing her appetite, with a distended abdomen. She looked pregnant (which would have been impossible), so I took her to the vet. It turns out she has FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), which is a mutated strain of the cat coronavirus. It affects 1 in 100 cats. It is a fatal disease, which having done a lot of research, is a leading cause of death in cats under 3 years old due to weaker immune systems. Until recently, there has not been a licensed cure; however in the last 6 months, treatment has been developed and licensed and is curing this terrible disease, which has killed thousands of cats.
The treatment is having great results, but is expensive, costing up to £8,000+. My insurance does not cover this amount and I do not have the money to save Simpki. If she does not have the treatment she will die in a matter of weeks, but I will have to make the awful decision to put her down so that she does not suffer.
I have only had her in my life for 6 months, but she has made such an impact, I am totally in love with her and am heartbroken at the thought of losing her.
It would mean the world to me for any donatations, no matter how small, to save this beautiful kitten. She is a wonderful soul and has come so far, she deserves the best life after such a horrible start. Currently, I am giving her lots of love but she is deteriorating very fast. She is very thin, is struggling on her feet, her belly is huge and she is not eating. She only has the energy to lie flat out. If I start the treatment, research says she will start to improve in a matter of days and then will need a 12-week course of medication. Cats are going into remission and surviving with this treatment - it is life saving.
We have an appointment with specialists tomorrow morning. Please help me save Simpki. The last picture shows how fragile she is today.
The money raised will save Simpki but also be in memory of all the other cats who have passed away due to lack of awareness and lack of treatment.
Please share and raise awareness of this horrible feline disease FIP and help us save many other cats!!!!
Thank you so so much.
Lots of love from myself and Simpki xxx
