Please Help Save Pam

My aunt Pam was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - Non Primary Retro Peritoneal Squamous Cell Carcinoma with HPV 16 - of unknown origin on July 4th, 2023. She’d been grossly misdiagnosed.

She’d been suffering from debilitating pain in her back and leg for a year and a half, and told that the pain she was in was from two bulging discs in her lower back. She didn’t know she had a tumour at the base of her spine, and it was strangling the nerve in her leg. It wasn’t just misdiagnosed, the tumour was VERY visible on an MRI back in November of 2022, but the radiologist… didn’t call it.

One night in emergency, after almost 2 years of debilitating pain, they saw it. She immediately underwent 5 rounds of heavy radiation. And went straight into chemo. The day before her second round of chemo, her Oncologist told her she hadn’t given her all of the chemo drugs on the first round, and wouldn’t be on the second round — because the government wouldn’t pay for one of the them. They wouldn’t cover it because her cancer is of unknown origin. Meaning they don’t know where her cancer originated.

She sits in a chemo waiting room, and every other patient in that room is covered but her, for that chemo session. The drug is called Bevacizumab (Avastin), and it costs close to $6,000.00 per round. She has at least 4 more rounds, so our goal is to cover the cost of this treatment. We don’t know what else to do and it’s urgent.

Pam was a brilliant stage actress before this happened. She’s a mother. A wife. A sister. She can make anyone laugh, and still is, even though she has every reason not to. She champions and advocates on behalf of others however ironically, presently not the best advocator for herself. She’s a believer that if there’s a will, there is a way. This drug might be the way. It might be the thing that saves her life. So, we’re reaching out to you.
