Our sweet Georgie is only 7 months old, a tiny, gentle soul with the biggest heart. He was born with FIV, but we were told he could still live a long, happy, healthy life. From the moment we met him at SPCA, we knew we had to save him. He’s the sweetest, cuddliest love bug you’ll ever meet.
On Friday, we took Georgie to the vet because his gums were bleeding heavily. We thought it might be a dental issue, but when his bloodwork came back, we were told his platelet count was dangerously low, meaning his body was unable to clot or stop the bleeding. When they drew his blood to confirm the platelet count, his leg instantly swelled and bruised, and he began bleeding internally.
We rushed him to the ER, where we learned that Georgie has an extremely rare blood type, so rare that no clinic in New Jersey or New York had a single unit available. To try to save his life, doctors performed a xenotransfusion, meaning Georgie received blood from a dog. This procedure is so dangerous that he might not survive it, but it is his only chance. He received the transfusion at 6am since all his levels dropped. They now believe he is bleeding somewhere else internally.
Even after everything he’s been through, Georgie is still purring for attention, meowing for treats, and trying to charm the vet techs even though his body is failing him. He’s fighting so hard to stay with us, but his tiny body is still bleeding, and he needs ongoing care and monitoring.
We’re doing everything we can, but the medical costs are overwhelming. Current bill is at $7,000 and that’s for only yesterday and today’s care. If he makes it through this, he will most likely need to stay at the animal hospital for a week. Please, if you’re able, help us give Georgie the chance to keep fighting. His best friend Olive is waiting at home for him, and we can’t imagine our lives without his little purrs and cuddles.
Thank you for helping us fight for our sweet Georgie boy❤️
