David vs Goliath, Please Help Save our Family Business

Hi, my name is Adam. I’m a former Army medic turned entrepreneur. In 2017, I left Cincinnati and moved to Nashville, TN to start my first business. I packed up everything I had, my two dogs and moved to a new city where I knew no one, but was full of ambition and drive. I signed a deal to start my pet business, as I have a huge love of animals, health and wellness, business and serving my community. This seemed like the perfect fit..I quickly began working on average 100+ hours a week, 7 days a week of loading up my Jeep, setting up a pop up tent to sell pet products at events, apartment complexes, breweries, markets and so on. After 18 months of doing so, I finally got my big break with a small retail space in The Gulch area of Nashville. I started with a few thousand dollars worth of merchandise, fixtures I made from scrap wood, and a dream to make something of myself with this opportunity. I poured my heart, soul, sweat and time into this business to become successful. We have struggled between being in a new city, new business, covid, theft, recession and everything in between including construction and the road collapsing. But I stayed on course and gave it my all. I then got into dog training and built a reputation for that, I became known as “Adam the Dog Guy” in Nashville. People knew me, my story, my dogs and supported me. Not the name of the store, but me. Pet Wants wasn’t known in Nashville before me, as far as people thought, Pet Wants was me, not the other way around. We’ve done donations and drives for animal shelters, homeless dogs, veterans and schools. We have even raised money for a family in less than 48 hours to cover their rent so they didn’t get evicted during Christmas time ! We have always put our faith and love into our community. However, the burden of being a part of this franchise became too much and no longer made sense, my parents were near retirement, and they wanted to still have something to keep them going and a reason to move to TN. So my family took over and created Canine Concepts, a way to help my vision live on, serve the community and do great things on a larger, less restrictive scale. A way to create better products and services for the community at a better price, all while being able to help more organizations. Well, Pet Wants Franchise Systems is now trying to sue me personally, my dissolved LLC that was with them, and now Canine Concepts, which my parents and that company have no contractual obligation to Pet Wants. Pet Wants is trying to take everything from me, my family and my parents. They have cut off distributors and manufacturers from working with Canine Concepts. I’m a family man that has served his country, worked tirelessly through everything to be able to provide for my family, and now a big corporation is trying to take everything. We are trying to get donations to help cover legal fees and travel back and forth to Ohio as that is where the court hearings will be. Please help us beat this big corporation and save our family business that we have poured everything into.

This isn’t just about us—it’s about standing up for small family businesses against corporate bullying.

If you can give anything, we would be deeply grateful. Your donation helps us fight back, protect our family, and keep serving our community of pets and their people.
