Yesterday we received a devastating call from an emergency room doctor in Indonesia. My dad had a stroke around 4am on April 21st, is unable to move the left side of his body, needed high-risk medication to clear his clots, and can no longer remember where he is. We're asking for help with his emergency surgery.
For context, our father is a disabled US Veteran, a beloved father, and had been desperate to see Indonesia after his last stroke in 2023 left him impaired and unable to work.
We, his daughters, are simultaneously booking flights to get to him while gathering emergency funds to continue his treatment in the hospital. His Veteran insurance is not accepted, and it’s roughly $2,572.42/day to keep him online while we race to be with him.
On top of daily hospital costs, he requires an urgent stent of $8720.54.
Our hearts are broken, we’ve booked the earliest possible flight from Los Angeles to Indonesia with zero sleep, and we are anxiously awaiting further testing before we can even fathom what to do.
Dad raised us with the belief that nothing was ever handed to us, and that with enough effort and determination anything is possible. He would never admit this - but asking for help is a part of that mindset.
We are very humbly creating this GoFundMe to alleviate this sudden and severe medical emergency. The initial night alone was $3,300 including the ambulance. He’s expected to stay through the weekend. The flight has been booked and all donations will go to his care, both in the emergency room and throughout what is unfortunately going to be a long healing process.
Every contribution helps. If you're unable to donate, sharing this means just as much.
We're mortified to be in a position where we need to ask for help, especially with everything going on in the world, but from the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading this. We are entering one of the hardest chapters of our lives.
Thank you,
Shanice & Takara
