Please Help Save Molly and Michael!
My name is Kerry Garvin and I met Michael Antes, his dog Molly, and her pup as he selflessly surrendered them to Jackson County Animal Shelter in Sylva, North Carolina. As I stepped inside, Michael was sitting on the floor sobbing, with his arms wrapped around Molly. I had never met him before, but saw the utter devastation in his eyes as he made the best decision for his dog.
Yesterday, Molly was both assaulted by a man and his dog where Michael had been living in his camper with Molly and her pup. The man punched Molly in her eye and let his own dog attack her, twisting her leg and biting deep into her skin. Molly is extremely docile and did not fight back.
She has tendons hanging out of her raw flesh in addition to her battered eye. Michael and his sister frantically brought her to every vet in our rural area to try to get her emergency help, but not one vet would help them without a $500 deposit, which Michael simply can’t afford.
He has had Molly for four years and the bond between them is pure and undeniable. They are lost without each other.
Michael is currently staying at his sister’s house, after leaving the campsite once the police were called, fearing for his own safety, as well as Molly and her pup. He has the title for the camper and has a dog-friendly campground lined up to which he can move the camper in Whittier, North Carolina.
Unfortunately, he does not have the money to pay for Molly’s vet bill and the new lease at the campground. This is where I need your help.
Jackson County Animal Shelter is full of wonderful people but they are a kill shelter with the number of mistreated and abandoned animals in our area. Yesterday, the shelter was full before ARF pulled a number of dogs to be rescued.
With Molly’s injuries, she’s at-risk. I’ve put my name down to worst-case scenario foster or adopt Molly (with the intention of her returning to Michael) so that nothing happens to her at the shelter.
Any monies donated to this fundraiser will go to Molly’s vet bills and securing the lease for Michael’s camper. I inquired about specifically donating money to Molly at the shelter but unfortunately they can’t specifically allocate funds to a specific dog; it goes into a big pot at the Jackson Health Department. However, I would be able to pay her vet bill for her injuries—which will not be cheap.
I am a college instructor of creative writing and published writer. I’ve never started a fundraiser for myself or anyone else.
This is a first.
This is how much I’ve been affected by meeting Michael and Molly.
Please consider helping the two of them find their way back to each other. They are a bonded pair and the love between them is evident.
I have no doubt Molly’s had a wonderful four years with Michael as her human. Let’s give them many more together and help Molly recover from her injuries with Michael.
Please consider donating a $1, $100, anything to help. I ensure all monies donated will go to Molly’s vet bills and Michael’s living situation.
