For the past 8 years, my husband Jarred Elford has been living in constant pain.

Over those years, he went back and forth to our GP again and again, asking for help, trying to understand what was wrong. Each time, the solution was more pain relief — rotating between medications , and eventually being prescribed a concoction of pain medication.

But the pain never went away. It only got worse.

We trusted that the system would eventually find the cause, that someone would look deeper. But that never happened.

In late 2025, everything changed.

After further investigations and external imaging, we were faced with the reality that something far more serious may have been going on all along. We are now in a position where time matters, and we urgently need specialist care to get clear answers and begin treatment.

The problem is, the waiting times here are simply too long for what we are dealing with.

We have been left with no choice but to try access care through the EU Cross-Border Healthcare Scheme, so Jarred can be seen as quickly as possible. However, the upfront costs are beyond anything we can manage alone, starting at €35,000 just to begin.

This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional journey for our family. Watching someone you love live in pain for so many years, without answers, and now facing something potentially very serious, is something no one is ever prepared for.

We are asking for help so that Jarred can finally get the care he needs, without any more delays. By going to a cancer dedicated centre abroad, Jarred will have access to specialized treatments which my very well extend his life significantly or lead him into remission.
