My name is Jennifer, and I’m reaching out with the heaviest heart I’ve ever had. My four-and-a-half-year-old Jack Russell, Huxley, is back in hospital and fighting for his life. He’s more than just a pet – he’s my companion, my comfort, and my reason to keep going when my own health makes every day a challenge.

Two weeks ago, Huxley became suddenly unwell. The vet diagnosed him with a non-specific viral infection and put him on antibiotics and painkillers. For days, we went back and forth to the vet for check-ups, praying each time for better news. Slowly, after a long, worrying 10 days, he began to bounce back. He started eating again, wagging his tail, and for three days he was almost his old self.

But last Thursday evening, everything changed. He ate his dinner, but it was his last proper meal. On Friday, he was quiet and withdrawn, and by that night I knew something was terribly wrong again . This morning, I rushed him back to the vet. His temperature was dangerously high – 41°C – and he was immediately admitted. He’s now on IV fluids, antibiotics, pain relief, and anti-sickness medication.

The vets have told me his immune system is severely compromised. They’ve sent bloods to the lab for urgent, in-depth testing, and there is now a terrifying possibility of leukaemia. Hearing those words made my heart stop. Huxley is still so young, and the thought of losing him is unbearable.

The truth is, Huxley has been my rock through some of the darkest times in my life. I live alone and am currently undergoing investigations for another possible brain tumour. Because of my health, I am unable to work, and this means I simply do not have the funds to cover the mounting vet bills. So far, they total £1,550 – but with his hospital stay and further treatment, they are likely to reach £2,000 or more.

I am not someone who finds it easy to ask for help, but right now, Huxley’s life depends on it. Every pound donated will go directly to his care – to keep him in the hospital where he can receive the urgent treatment he needs and to give him the best chance of recovery.
