Hi, my name is Michael and I am trying to help Goliath.
Goliath is a four year old Rottweiler who belongs to Alice Velasquez (Guardian Rottweilers). Alice is a veteran who decided to come home to Indiana and breed some of the best Rottweilers in the world. I met Alice and Goliath a couple of weeks ago while searching for a new Rottweiler puppy. I had been researching breeders in Indiana for a few months and was already pretty sure I would be getting my next Rottie from Guardian. After meeting Alice and Goliath I had no doubt.
Back in September Goliath wass out of state for stud service. While on that trip he contracted Blastomycosis (a fungal infection). He has been fighting for his life ever since. It looks now like he is going to survive this battle even though he may lose at least one of his eyes. He has already lost part of his tongue.
This brings me to the reason for this fundraiser. Alice has spent an eye watering amount of money to save this boy. Some people have called her crazy (and worse) for not just putting him down. I don't know if I could do what she has done but after meeting Goliath in person I can understand why she would. He is an amazing boy and even with all he is going through full of life.
I would encourage you to go to the Guardian Rottweiler FaceBook page where you can read in detail about his struggle. I want to do what I can to help them but by myself I can only put a drop in a deep bucket. So, I am asking all those Rottweiler lovers out there to consider pitching in $10, $20 or whatever you can. Contrary to what some may think most high standard breeders don't make a ton of money. If I had to guess (based on reputation) I would guess Guardian Rottweilers does OK. However, Alice puts SO much back into her dogs I really don't think she is getting rich. She loves her dogs like family and I hope we can make sure she can continue to provide the very best quality Rotties for those of us who love the breed.
