Please help save Dude’s leg. He was hit by a car this morning damaging both front legs badly. The emergency vet in Fresno’s only option was to amputate his left leg and salvage the right. This is not an option. He’s only 7 months old
and I couldn’t bring myself to do that to him merely for financial reasons. Money is replaceable, to take a puppy’s leg away when there’s a chance to save it is unimaginable.
UC Davis after reviewing the exams performed in Fresno says they can help him, with an estimated cost of $22,400. We’re currently on our way there, and while we qualified for some emergency financing, its not enough. Any donation for Dude to live a full mobility life would mean the world to us. Thank you sooo much
*UPDATE 8:00pm* UC Davis has admitted him but won’t know anything tonight. In a de-gloving situation like this with compound break they need time to see if the flesh will stay alive. Sorry that’s gross but Dude is in good spirits and they will call us in the morning when all the specialists are available for another evaluation. If things go well they’re expecting home to stay a minimum of 5-7 days.
Thank you everyone for your support and please share with anyone that knows this special guy or is an animal lover.
*UPDATE 4:00 pm 11/1*
No news, the staff at UCDavis are doing everything they can for him, only time will tell the next steps. After removing his initial bandages there’s more tissue damage than previously presumed. Poor guy might be there a while. He doesn’t deserve this…
*UPDATE* 11:30AM wounds are starting to heal, they still don’t know anything, he’s eating, upset which they say is good, he’s ok. Thank you
*UPDATE* they don’t know anything yet, time will tell. The Dr is hopeful, based on the skin growth they’ve seen over the last few days. They’re currently at $9,700 which I already gave them, but 25-30k is the new estimate.
*UPDATE* UC Davis sent me a few photos. Because of his injuries and where we live they are keeping him which is the worst pain but best for his recovery. The DR said he’s unlike any Mal they’ve had as far as temperament. That’s truly dude. Hes a gentle boy. Thank you everyone so far, and please keep spreading the word.
*UPDATE* 11/10
I apologize for neglecting updates, that’s on me and donors deserve to know how the little guy is holding up. Almost every day or other day I’ve received a call from either his Dr or assistant with every update being better than the last. His progress has been far greater than they hoped for. Two pins were placed in his left paw to help set and hold while the connective tissue regrows. He can in with ~20% living tissue and is up to ~75%. His right leg only suffer severe skin damage and is healing great. He’s been inpatient this whole time and they don’t know how long till he can come home. On his outside stroll today he saw a squirrel and wanted to jump out of his stroller lol. Everyone at UC Davis I’ve talked to absolutely adores him and his calm demeanor even in his circumstances. While his progress greatly increases so are the costs attached. Anything helps this Dude and is greatly appreciated. The pictures of him being a goofball with his legs in the air are the most recent. Thank you
