I am raising money to help me save CJ's left eye and overall eyesight. CJ was sadly attacked by my sister's Great Dane on Friday, November 14th, 2025. We rushed CJ immediately after to @ VEG for an ER visit where he was evaluated, given pain meds and was referred to a specialist. We took him to Animal Eye Guys [Bird Road-Miami] on Monday, November 17thm 2025, where the specialist sadly gave us the devastating news that he had lost all of his eyesight in due to not just the cornea being pierced, but also the retina. Since there was so much blood in the eye, the Dr. couldn't give us an answer on if the retina was still attached, so we are hopeful for more info on his follow-up appt on Thursday, November 20th, 2025. Right now, we are giving him 4 various drops every 4 hours on a 12 am/4 am/8 am/12 pm/4 pm/8 pm schedule, as well as liquid anti-biotics and a pain killer twice a day 10 am/10 pm.

We are trying to do all that we can to save the eye given that he has a grade 4/5 heart murmur, so we truly worry about putting him under for surgery. We'd have to see a cardiologist, and it takes 6-8 months in Miami just to secure an appt. to see one.

CJ had a terrible eye ulcer in this same eye back in 2023, where he almost lost his eye, but with the help of my amazing friends, I was able to pay for his treatment to save it, but sadly here I am two years later in an even worse situation and scenario.

About CJ:

CJ is a 14-year old senior special needs shih-tzu whom I rescued from the streets of Miami.

CJ suffers from severe allergies and must eat a special home-cooked diet. He is allergic to chicken. Any deviation from his recommendation food or treats results in a severe life-threatening allergic reaction. He vomits and defecates bloody diarrhea if he consumes anything with even chicken by-products such as: egg shells, stock (from boiling water with chicken bones), or any miscellaneous body parts. He is also allergic to grass and suffers from severe dermatitis if he comes in contact with it, and has to use special shampoos and conditioners. He also has an anaphylactic reaction to the rabies vaccine. All of which are related to his severe allergies. Sadly, due to what I believe is related to years to eating chicken, his liver is borderline failing. His liver enzymes are always high, but have been as high as almost 600. His most recent visit, it was as high as 400+ so he had to go back Denamarin and try another elimination diet.

This took me years and thousands of dollars in trying various foods and Dermologist / Allergists specialist appointments to figure out. Surprisingly, chicken didn’t show on his allergy panel. Grass did and explained his constant scratching and hot spots, which he would bite his skin raw until it was bloody.

A newer development, as of 2020, is now he has a grade 3/4 heart murmur. It is congenital and breed based. This also requires a low fat/ low colesterol diet. I have to take him yearly to a specialist to have an ultrasound, which is very expensive.

Lastly, due to his breed, he is very prone to eye ulcers. He has had several from when I rescued him, but two in particular where he almost lost his eye. The most recent ulcer was 2023.

I have used my own funds, as well as credit cards to provide the best care for him, but could really use the help moving forward as the costs for everything, food, medicine, doctors’ visits has skyrocketed.

Any amount truly helps provide CJ with his medically necessary medications, Dr. visits, various procedures, and overall care.
