Hello,

Please meet Bucky, a 13 week old golden retriever who was being literally given away by his breeders as he has a birth defect on his front leg. We have been told by the breeder that it will likely have to be amputated, which we fully expect to have to happen eventually but we're not going down without a fight! Bucky is a happy little chap, who doesn't let his painful and misshapen leg slow him down too much. He does have good use of the leg, pining toys down and pawing at his food bowl etc, but the paw is cruelly curled the wrong way at the wrist, so he "knuckles" when he walks. On grass this isn't so much of a problem, but he'll finish his jabs course next week, and pavement walking will be an issue.

We are asking our own vets for a referral to a specialist Orthopedic vet (We'd love to go to Supervet, but he is very expensive (£12,000-£14,000)) and we hope to have the initial Ortho appointment shortly, so we can at least have a fair and balanced consultants view on whether the paw/leg can be saved. We anticipated these initial costs when we took him on and this isn't what we are fundraising for. We are fundraising to see if we can hit anything close to £10,000 so that poor little Bucky can potentially keep his leg and we can support him with any associated hydrotherapy he might need to regain muscle tone. He has 10-14 years ahead of him hopefully, and if we can give him as full a life as possible, we'd like to try and achieve that for him.

IF (and its a big IF) we did manage to fundraise enough for Bucky to keep his leg and IF we went over and above target, we would donate the remaining money to a local charity "Yappy Ever After" to help pay off some of their existing vet bills, as they were kindly prepared to support Bucky at very short notice when we first collected him.

If we are advised by the Orthapedic Vets that Bucky will have to have the Amputation, all money raised will be used to help pay off as much of the "Yappy Ever After" vet bills as possible.
