Hi, this is Julie Nesbit, big sister to Sarah Owen, and Mae’s aunt.

On the evening of May 24, 2025, I received an urgent call from Sarah to get to their apartment, it was on fire. She was leaving work to meet me. When I arrived, the fire chief told me no one was inside, but they had found the 2 cats, Moss & Rock, deceased. Mae was with a friend. We are SO thankful that they both are okay!

It appears they have lost nearly everything between fire, water, and insulation damage. We won’t know what (if anything) can be salvaged for a few days. * We found out the fire was due to an issue with the bathroom ceiling fan.

We are grateful for all the prayers and concern expressed already, and ask that you continue to remember them daily at this time. This has been a hard year, and this additional loss will be an emotional and financial burden for them.

Many have asked how they can help. If you have items to donate, please reach out to Sarah or me. If you are able and would like to donate funds, they will be used to replace, well, just about everything: toiletries, clothes, bedding, food, furniture, computer (Mae just graduated last week and will be going to college in the fall), … all those replaceable things that we need, just so hard to replace at a moment.
