Hello all. Thank you in advance for reading our plea for aid. Myself (Sarah) and my partner, Sean, experienced devastating flooding in the lower level of our Old North Milwaukee home the weekend of 8/9 - 8/10 2025 during the unprecedented storm that struck our beloved Milwaukee. We moved in a month and a half before the devastation; we were just starting to get settled…extremely happy with our home and our neighborhood. We took on 4 - 5 feet of category 3 water (the dark, murky, scary kind). It’s been an utter disaster zone since. We’ve lost half our home. Thankfully though, cleanup and demo are underway.

We’ve sustained complete loss of the guts, the mechanicals of our home (HVAC system including furnace, hot water heater, sump pump, radon mitigation system), many appliances, most all of Sean’s belongings (including winter clothing, musical instruments, precious books, family heirlooms, tools and many MANY other things), all of our cat’s belongings, furniture, artwork and a bedroom’s worth of stuff.

We are lucky in that we have an insurance rider to cover the sewer drain backup portion of the flood water, but that money will only cover our high deductible and paying the cleanup and demo crew. Replacing, restoring and rebuilding will be up to us.

Despite our misgivings about centering our plight as thousands throughout the area are struggling with similar conditions (conditions made worse by a lack of safety nets or assistance in this country) we are asking our community, friends and family to assist us in getting back to a sense of normalcy. Normalcy being: a hot water heater, new HVAC system, washer/dryer, winter clothing for Sean and getting us on our way to rebuilding and shoring up some sort of a bare bones lower level. We would greatly, positively and wholeheartedly appreciate any funds you kindhearted folks can send our way or, at the very least, help by spreading our plea around with your friends and families and in your social media communities. And, in return, we will send heaps of love and gratitude your way.
