Please help Sam and his family during his recovery

With permission from Karley and Sam we have made this go fund me account to help them with their lost wages as they are taking some time off right now due to this and they are not sure how long they will be in Ottawa for. This will help cover hospital parking, meals, gas, as well as hotels as Karley is not allowed to stay over night at the hospital due to covid and the hospitals restrictions as Sam recovers from being hit by a drunk driver. 

‘I've typed and erased and typed and erased. There are no words to describe what I feel or how to express it but I feel like something should be said and more awareness needs to be raised.

My husband went out for a roller blade last night and on his way home, 100 feet from our house, he was struck by a drunk driver.

I was waiting for him and when he was late I got nervous and I looked out my door as I heard sirens approaching and lights flashing.

I ran out my door in bare feet and yelled to a crowd asking if it was a guy on roller blades and as they told me yes my heart sank. I ran faster to the ambulance and was intercepted by police grabbing at me and medics blocking my view. They were doing their job and I respect that. I was a mess.

I heard sam yell for me when he heard me. He was conscious. He is flown to ottawa and I drive, not knowing any other details.

I can't stand to think of what sam tells me of the incident because the actions of the driver were atrocious even after the incident. I won't describe them because that is Sams story to tell when he is ready.

I sit here in the hospital beside my best friend whose legs are mangled, his body is full of glass and he is getting titanium rods put in his leg tomorrow and I beg you not to drive under the influence. I beg you not to drive distracted. I beg you to be responsible.
