Hi. I am Eileen Gunn, and I am a friend of Saki Mafundikwa, the Zimbabwe-based graphic designer and educator. Saki is doing the best he can on his farm in Zimbabwe, but he's in the middle of a short-term financial crisis. I am hoping that his friends in the US and the UK and elsewhere can donate to help him get past it.

Please let Saki tell you what's going on:

"I basically live off of my monthly Social Security payment from when I worked in the US more than 25 years ago, but it's not enough to pay my expenses (which, really, are very small). I have been putting the overage on my charge cards, and that has been building up. So now I have a substantial credit-card debt overdue on several cards from my US bank, which is where I my SocSec payment is deposited. If I can't pay down my card debt by September, the bank will cancel my account, and then I will have no bank account to collect my Social Security payment. A Catch-22 situation if ever there was one! The only way I can see out of this mess is through an SOS to my friends. Can you help me out?"

These are tough times, as we all know. Saki doesn't want anyone to stretch their own budget to help him with his, but he cannot teach abroad right now. If you can pitch in with whatever is comfortable for you to send, that would be a huge help. I will just keep asking folks for money until there is enough to give him respite. We all know he is not a lavish spender, and that he has given generously of himself to others. Thank you for considering this!
