Hello. My name is Dee, and I'm here to introduce Ruth, who has been a trooper regarding her illness called Lymphedema, which has put her in a non-mobile status for more than a year. There is no cure for Lymphedema , and the pain is excruciatingly, limiting, and makes it very hard to be able to stand up.

Ruth is unable to go to the bathroom, to the kitchen, or even move freely about her own home. Instead, she needs help to wash or turn herself in bed. She can only stand with the help of a walker, but only for a few seconds and only if there is someone at her side to ensure that she does not fall over.

Since Ruth cannot walk to the bathroom or kitchen, she has a porta-potty at her side, and her granddaughter, who is just 11 years old, does the cooking, with help from a friend. This 11-year-old, and Ruth's own daughter, who is 10, work hard to keep the house clean, and the meals nutritious for them all. They are doing a good job, but they need help.

Despite all the pain, the swelling of her legs, the heat surrounding her flesh, the frequent hospital visits every 10-12 days for debridement (cleaning, scraping, re-dressing the wounds), Ruth still wakes up with a smile on her face and joy in her heart. She believes in God and credits Him for getting her this far and giving her fresh hope every day.

Her recent hospital stay resulted int her needing the go to a nursing home for rehabilitation. But because the insurance only covers a short amount of time, she could only stay for two weeks and was released to go back home where there is no medical care.

Ruth needs a proper bed to sleep in, because of her weight, they don't last long and become very uncomfortable very quickly. She also needs her legs soaked regularly, and they have to be kept dry and propped up, for better circulation.
