Hello, my name is Edna Mark, an advocacy for Rosebud Studio.
Rosebud Dance Studios was founded and owned by Rosilyn Griffis. In 2016 Rosilyn decided to start her vision of a dance studio offering Ballot, Hip Hop, Jazz, African, Latin, Country, and belly dancing at the YMCA for children and teenagers with minimum resources who can’t afford to participate in dance classes.
The year of 2019, Covid forced Rosilyn to think bigger because YMCA closed for dance practice. She immediately began practicing in local friends gyms and in her garage. In November 2020, she opened the doors to Rosebud Studio on 1254 Plaza Drive, Burlington, N.C. Rosebud Studio was named after Rosilyn’s mother, Rosemary White, a dancer until she became ill. Rosemary succumbed to a heart condition at the age of 42.
The year of 2020, Rosilyn became the first majorette style dance in Alamance County. Lifting up her dancers, giving them high self esteem, a safe and positive environment, providing a positive choice for them, and keeping them focused on career goals are Rosilyn’s main priorty. You can see Rosilyn’s dancers high self esteem on the dance floor. They are passionate with a purpose.
Other than having dance lessons, Rosilyn provides summer camp, activities, outings, tutoring, respite for their parents, and transportation to Rosebud Studios and back home for some of the dancers that are in need of transportation.
Keeping her studio afloat is an ongoing struggle for Rosilyn. When Rosilyn is asked why she doesn’t charge more to accommodate for her expenses, she says, “I can’t because they can’t afford to pay.” She wants to help them in all phases of their lives. She hopes that the experiences they gain from her studio will contribute to choices they will later make to become productive citizens. Rosilyn currently have enrolled 41 dancers from ages 4 to 16. Also, she has three tutors and 3 dance instructors.
Rosilyn has gone above and beyond to afford her students experiences beyond their imagination including numerous recitals. Rosilyn, with her husband Sedrick and daughter Whitney’s support, has used her personal funds, sold candy, sold popcorn, worked part-time, and she has taken time out of her busy schedule to make awareness in the community about Rosebud Studio. Dancing improves Rosebud students self confidence which is the most important ingredient for developing creative and physical skills. All of Rosebud students feel beautiful, loved, accepted, respected, and valued.
Rosilyn care about these children and teenagers because they are the future. They will inherit this world. Help us to inspire them to become productive members of society by keeping Rosebud alive. Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated.
