On February 3rd, life changed forever for Rob Steen, a devoted father, husband, and respected resident of Williams Lake, British Columbia. While working on the construction of the Williams Lake Urgent and Primary Care Unit, Rob suffered a devastating spinal cord injury — one that left him unable to walk on his own. Ironically, Rob was helping build a facility meant to heal others when he found himself in urgent need of critical care.
What started as a normal day ended in a major medical emergency — one that required him to be sent to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops – some 300 km away - where he underwent major surgery and an over two month hospital stay in their rehabilitation centre.
A Long Road Ahead
Doctors believe that recovery is possible, but it will take extensive therapy, equipment, and time. Rob is working tirelessly to regain feeling and movement in his legs, and his goal is simple: to walk again. The physical and emotional toll is immense, but so is his will to recover.
Why We're Asking for Your Help
We're raising $50,000 to help Rob and his family manage the overwhelming costs that are not covered, including:
physical therapy
Specialized medical equipment to aid recovery
Home modifications to ensure accessibility
Travel expenses for treatment and caregiver support
To make matters worse, WorkSafe BC has denied Rob’s claim, leaving the family without critical financial assistance. While an appeal is in progress, it may take months, if not years — time they simply don’t have.
Every Dollar Counts
We understand times are tough, but every donation — no matter the size — makes a meaningful difference. And if you can't give financially, sharing this campaign with your friends and community is just as valuable. Awareness fuels support — and support brings hope.
From Our Hearts — Thank You
Rob’s journey will be long and difficult, but he is filled with determination, strength, and hope — all bolstered by the support of people like you. Your kindness can help Rob stand, walk, and live fully again.
With deepest gratitude,
The Steen Family
