My name is Rachael, but some of you may know me as Miss Gillis.

I have lived in North Berwick for 30 years, and my family has lived here for many generations.

I have worked in the catering industry for 18 years.

I first started out as a waitress in The Buttercup cafe, helping my Greek boss Andreas host Greek nights.

I then went to college and became a Qualified Chef and Patisserie Chef.

I then obtained a degree at Perth University in Food, Nutrition and Textiles.

I have worked in 5-star hotels and at famous events.

I adore sharing my skills, helping and teaching young people how to cook and sew.

I have worked all over schools in East Lothian and Edinburgh.

I have taught young people with Additional Support Needs and also helped Primary Schools as a Classroom Assistant.

I have always dreamed of having my very own catering business.

I have worked at The Sail Loft Cafe, East Lothian Yacht Club, North Berwick Harbour for 9 years. My last trading day will be the 11th of July as a new model is coming out. The Yacht Club are closing the doors to the public and volunteers are going to run the cafe for members only.

My father was a care nurse for the elderly and also worked at ELCAP for people with Additional Support Needs. He has recently been diagnosed with Glioblastoma Stage 4 brain cancer and it’s terminal. I have been his full-time carer for 5months. I am reaching out to our lovely community to please ‘Go fund me!’ so my darling mum, dad and I can go away to spend some much deserved restbite and quality time together. My father was given 2-3months to live in February without treatment and a year and a half with treatment. My father has massively declined. Radiotherapy didn’t help as much as surgeons had hoped. I am currently unemployed and also looking for support to find my next dream job of running a catering business. I am known for making huge scones, homemade sausage rolls, catered for special dietaries, special events, christmas cakes and even made a wedding cake. Can anyone help me please?
