Help Rae Get Surgery To Run the Same Again
Donation protected
Dearest Friends & Family to Rae,
Our sweet, loving, independent, and fast-as-lightning girl jumped out of a bakfiets last Sunday on our way to the forest. She was leashed to the bakfiets, and wasn't able to land properly even though she was (shockingly) able to clear it. Upon hitting the ground she just started screaming and crying. It was awful, scary, and the most heartbreaking thing we've ever experienced with her. She immediately couldn't walk on it, but she just hopped straight to our front door. Thank goodness we were still in front of our home.

On Monday we took her to the vet and her hock (ankle) had swollen overnight. The vet took X-rays and sent them to a specialist orthopedic surgeon. We heard back yesterday evening that she has fractured one of her bones, and will need surgery if she is ever able to run, walk, or jump the same again.

We are devastated but hopeful that if she gets this surgery, she will return to the same agile Rae that LIVES to run fast & free, jump over any fence, outrun every dog in the park, "fake" them out and sprint away, run victory laps with a ball she caught because she doesn't know how to play fetch, run up and down a beach, sprint through an open field, be queen of any mountain or sawdust pile she sees, squeeze under any fence, and just love her life and bring a huge smile to everyone around her.
We rescued Rae two years ago from Curacao and we didn't know what kind of dog we were going to receive. She was found starving on the streets, and was going to get shot by a neighbour for eating their grass. She was 1 year old. Even though we'd never met her, we just felt that she was the dog for us, and we were going to give her a loving home. But she has brought more love, pure joy, laughter, trust, and sweet cuddles to us than we could have ever imagined. She is our world, and as she's only 3, she still has her whole life ahead of her.
The consult, CT scan, and surgery is going to cost 2900 euros. She has the consult and CT scan on Monday, and will need pins in her legs to keep the bones stable.
We are humbly asking for any donation you offer to help Rae receive this life-altering surgery and get back on all her feet as quickly as possible. She is still so young and healthy, and the chances of making a full recovery from this surgery are very high.
If you don't know Rae, or haven't seen her soar through a field or park, I've posted some videos to give you an idea. I've also shared some photos to give you a sense of her nature, and some of the joy she brings to us.
I am not an incredible artist, but in return for your donation I would love to draw or paint your favourite animal.
Any extra funds we receive will go to Rescue Paws Curacao. An organisation committed to helping stray dogs find a loving home in Rae's home country, Curacao : https://rescuepawscuracao.com/
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Brittany, Didzis & Rae
