Please Help Peyton Marie

Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,

Our family is seeking help from anyone who can offer any support. Peyton is experiencing a mental health crisis in the form of a psychotic episode. She is suffering from paranoia and delusions that leave her unstable, scared, and uncertain what is real. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to visit her in the short-term psychiatric ward where she is currently being treated for the acute issues she is facing. This episode began on August 12, a sudden onset that we were shocked to witness. Her medical team has ruled out the likelihood of brain tumors or blood clots, but they have not determined the cause for certain. They presume that her psychosis is either chemically-induced or due to a trauma.

Peyton is currently on Medicaid because she doesn’t have benefits from her PT job. We plan to send her for longer-term treatment at a facility that can help her find her way back to us. As you may know, few of the facilities accept Medicaid or any insurance and even fewer allow visitors, a vital part of her treatment (and hopefully recovery) given that she doesn’t trust medical personnel. She needs her family (at least visits from her family) to help her feel safe and comfortable and ultimately, to encourage her to allow doctors and counselors to treat her.

Peyton is 25. Her father died by suicide 6.5 years ago, and her mother is unable to work due to Crohn’s, COPD, and heart issues. Therefore, we are coming together as a family to help as much as possible, but these treatments can cost $250,000+ (see below for detailed breakdown). We will do everything we can to finance her healthcare, but she may require months-long or long-term care. We are pursuing every avenue to apply for aid and to generate extra income to cover as much as possible, but this is a large sum in a short period of time.

We hope to get our Peyton back – the happy, creative, intelligent, silly girl we love. She was always a sweet girl and loving to her whole family, but she was particularly close to her dad. The trauma of losing him was devastating and has caused her some issues in the years since, and her mother’s medical crisis and near-death experience in 2018 also scared her to her core. Still, she had been putting her life together, working, and looking into options to move her life forward. This mental health crisis has devastated us.

We appreciate any bit that you can contribute – be it resources, contacts, expertise…but in the end, any amount of money you can donate would be deeply appreciated. Should there be any money left over when her treatment is complete or if she makes a much speedier recovery (PLEASE!) than her current prognosis indicates, we will pay it forward by donating the remainder of the funds to others in a similar situation and/or to mental health charities.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We appreciate you and hope you are all healthy and happy.
