Dear family and friends, sweet Penny and her tribe need your help!
Emergency surgery is scheduled for January 20!
For those who know her (or for those who simply first meet her!), Penny the Dog always creates a magical, instant joy. Truly, to see her is to have a moment of happiness! There is just something about her that makes everyone smile. A kind and gentle soul, Penny is a beloved family pet and a longtime steadfast companion. Her full name is Penelope Ava, but she doesn't seem to know that.
She also doesn't know what kind of rescued mutt she is, but we suspect she is a spaniel-golden-unicorn mix. We have tried to explain this to her, but she doesn't seem to even think she's a dog.
She's just...one of us <3
And this sweet lovepup needs help!
Spindle Cell Tumor:
Shortly before the Christmas holiday, a large lump was discovered on Penny's hind right hip. A trip to the vet revealed that it is a Spindle Cell Tumor, and a consultation with a surgeon confirmed that it is in the pup's best interest to have it removed.
Vital Surgery at Angell MSPCA:
The surgery is very necessary -- the type of mass that Penny has grows quickly, but with removal, the outcome is hopeful. Its believed that the tumor has been caught early, and it does not cause her pain at the moment. We have been moving as fast as possible booking the nearest available dates with the vet and surgeon.
Recovery is expected, but may have complications immediately post-op. The procedure will require a generous amount of tissue removal to ensure the elimination of the Spindle Cells. It is an estimated two-week period for recovery. The location of the removal does run the risk of both infection and reopening of the wound if not careful -- family will be with her around the clock to help her heal!
Surgery Details:
Location: Angell MSPCA, Boston
Cost: The surgery will cost an estimated $3,500, but this figure could change depending on a variety of factors ranging from medication usage and length of required hospital stay for observation.
Date: The surgery is scheduled for Friday morning, January 20.
Please Help!
Our Penny is priceless to our family, and we know we must do what is best for her. Please help us fund the care she needs, she means to world to us! The $3,500 (est.) is just such a large sum of money to suddenly need right after the holidays. Any contribution would forever be appreciated.
Penny has been a faithful companion for twelve years, but one wouldn't guess her age by how she looks and acts! She still runs, jumps, and scarfs food down like a puppy. Perhaps she's a little hard of hearing (or perhaps maybe just selective...) and a little more sleepy these days, but that's it. She still has so much to give and be a part of.
Appreciatively, from all of us,
Penny's Family
