Please help pay for my divorce (domestic abuse)

I am raising my goal just in case, and will use any other donations towards the court fee for a financial order and any potential solicitor fees if needed.

I moved here in 2017 from the USA to join my former partner on a settlement visa after we were married in 2016. We are now separated, and I wish to finalise everything through divorce.

Divorce in the U.K. is very different from the process in the USA: very complicated and very expensive. Just to start the first part of filing online is about £600 or $750, then there is another part after that called a Financial Order that must be done through the court and could cost another £500. As long as the divorce is uncontested and the financial order is a ‘clean break’ (meaning we don’t share or owe assets, but I don’t get any financial support either), then hopefully there shouldn’t be any more fees. I can’t afford a solicitor to advise if he can pay for any of this process or not.

The reason I want to get a divorce is due to domestic abuse- an assault that occurred in May 2023. I left our marital home the next day, with all my things and my cat. The case has been through the legal system; charged, and sentenced.

I won’t go into detail on how all of this has affected me, but I’m sure you can imagine. I just want to be able to draw a line under all this and start over.
