Please help Paul fight against Leukemia ❤️
Donation protected
Paul was taken to the hospital on Friday July 22, 2022 after having dislodged a blood clot in the back of his throat. He was immediately placed in the ICU. That night they did blood tests and told us he has leukemia. Because his platelets were so low, CT scans showed he had and still has a brain bleed (that thankfully has stayed stable). The following day he received a bone marrow biopsy, which later told us the subcategory of leukemia that he has. Paul was diagnosed with AML. Paul has been receiving daily blood and platelet transfusions since being in the hospital. Paul’s intestines were so inflamed from the leukemia that it was putting pressure on the lungs and compromising his breathing. Paul was intubated for 7 days, starting on July 27. While on the ventilator, they noticed that his kidneys were not functioning properly, and started dialysis. After getting off of the ventilator and being put on dialysis, his health was progressing and they transferred him to the PCU. In the PCU, Paul made slight improvements. The inflammation in his gut was going down and breathing improved. He was able to get out of bed and walk around for the first time in 2 weeks. However, on Friday August 12, Paul had to be transferred back to the ICU and put back on the ventilator, after going into shock due to extremely low blood pressure. He is fighting for his life and he wants to live.
Paul is an amazing, humble, and strong man. He is full of love, generosity, and kindness. He has always put others before himself. Even when in the hospital, all he cares about is getting home to take care of his family and puppies. Paul loves his wife, 3 dogs, and 3 children. He has two younger golden retrievers and one 13 year old Great Dane (who needs 24 hour around the clock care). All he wants to do is get back home to be with and caring for his puppies. Anyone who ever crosses paths with Paul immediately is befriend by him. He is the best friend, best dad, best husband anyone could ask for. We ask that you help him fight so we can bring him home and get him back to doing the things he loves (biking, hiking, going to the beach, etc.).
For those of you who have had a chance to know the Burress Family, you know that they are the first to step up and provide any kind of support in a time of need. The Burress’s are ALWAYS there for their friends, family & community.
The tragic news of Paul’s recent diagnosis of Leukemia (AML) is devastating. This type of cancer will be a very long and hard journey for the Burress family. Any support is greatly appreciated.
Possible ways to help Paul fight this battle: (1) donate to this go fund me, (2) donate blood/platelets to the local San Diego blood bank with his code PB22, and (3) keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you to everyone for any support you can give.
