Hello, my name is Karyn. I moved to Clarks Summit about 6 years ago. Ever since I moved here, there was this beautiful cat roaming the neighborhood. I knew he was a feral cat. He looked very skinny and not well taken care of. He started coming to my back door every day, hoping we would feed him. I'm a lover of animals, so of course, we were feeding him, making sure he had water and dry food. I absolutely love his colors and his markings, so we named him Patchy.

When it started to get cold, we tried to lure him in. I went on Facebook to the local community pet rescue to see if anybody could help us try to trap him. Remarkably, we had a lot of responses with suggestions on what we could do. Some even went as far as lending us cat traps and explaining to us how to use them and bait them. We set the traps up, but he was so stubborn. He wouldn't go in the traps. So, I decided to buy him a little heated house for outside when it gets cold so he had a warm place to rest.

He started to get sick, and we did everything we knew to nurture him back to health. Unfortunately, he had an upper respiratory infection. It made his left eye go completely blind, and it started moving over to his right eye, and he has very little sight in that eye. As time went on, he started to get better and looked healthier.

About 2 weeks ago, I was outside, and I heard a cat meowing very loudly and sounding in distress. I looked around and saw Patchy limping towards me. His right arm was dragging on the ground as he limped towards me. I knew something bad had happened, so I tried to go towards him, and he turned and started limping away towards the woods. So, I put food and water outside and left my back door open, hoping that he would come back. I was sitting on my porch, and I saw him come back. I didn't want to move and scare him away. He came into my house and went right upstairs. That's something that never happened. He went into my bedroom and went right under my bed, meowing and looking afraid. I quickly got the trap, put food inside of it with a blanket, and used my Swiffer to push him into the trap, and it worked. I immediately took him to a vet.

They had to sedate him to do an ultrasound. Come to find out, someone in the neighborhood shot him with a BB gun and destroyed his right arm and the nerve. The vet said that he needs immediate surgery to amputate his right arm. I was in complete shock that someone would do something so cruel. When the vet told me how much it was going to cost to do the surgery and have him neutered, it was extremely expensive. I asked if they could do a payment plan, and they said they couldn't; it would have to be paid in full. I can't afford the whole cost of the surgery, so a friend of mine told me to do a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of the surgery. He cannot defend himself with not having any vision and not having use of his arm anymore. So, after the surgery, we decided to keep him with us permanently so we can nurture him and protect him. He cannot protect himself outside anymore.

We ask if you can please share this post so we can raise the remaining cost to get him the help and surgery that he needs.

Thank you so much for reading Patchy's story.
