**It is with great sadness that Patch lost her battle with lymphoma cancer & passed away on the 9th February. *
Patch did extremely well throughout her terminal illness & her treatment of palative care & holistic care, helped her to feel more comfortable throughout it.
I want to again say a big thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraiser to help with the cost of her vet bills. Nearly £500 was raised & went towards the total cost of around £1,300. Which helped a great deal. We are so very grateful to everyone.
Patch will never be forgotten. She brought so much joy & love to mine & my boys lives & will be missed deeply. Thank you once again.
Hi everyone & thank you for taking a moment to read Patch’s story.
My beautiful cat Patch suddenly become unwell in November 2025. The first few weeks she had started to loose weight. She also presented a few other symptoms, had grown weak & lethargic, & after taking her to the vet on Thursday (13th Nov) we received news that we was not prepared for.
After examination, the vet discovered a tumour in her stomach. Patch had bloods taken which showed anaemia & her white blood cells were significantly high, suggesting a sign of infection or & inflammation in her body. She was prescribed antibiotics for the infection & the vet had hoped that would help her iron levels too but unfortunately it hasn't.
And probiotics which she continues to take.
Patch then had an ultrasound which sadly confirmed that the tumor was cancerous, or at least this is what we was told but thankfully not spread. A large tumour but she's a strong little thing & she is still doing very well, considering all she has & is going through. I was told that a biopsy wouldn't be needed after the ultrasound but later told that it would be if we wanted to go down the chemotherapy route. But due to her anemia & low weight, she could not have a biopsy under general anaesthetic, as it would of been too risky, therefore the only alternative was for her to undergo a FNA (fine needle asperate) This was to get a definitive diagnosis needed in order to start chemotherapy. It took a week for the results. However, the results showed an infected abscess. I felt so relieved & hopeful but the vet explained that the results showed a lot going on in her body & that cancer could not be ruled out & she still believed it to be cancerous. That there was a strong bacterial infection with significant inflammation & due to them being cell samples & not from the actual tumour, this is why she still believed it to be cancerous.
She was put on a 4 week course of antibiotics & because we did not get a cancer diagnosis, chemotherapy could not be offered & the only other option moving forward, was Steroid treatment as a form of chemotherapy & palative care.
Patch has been having checkups every week, up until 2 weeks ago. She started gaining weight each week but her last appointment (2 weeks ago) she had lost some weight. The tumor is continuing to grow. The steroids have not shrunk it like we'd hoped it would. Patch was also prescribed some medication a few weeks ago due to some difficulty breathing. Either due to fluid on her chest or the tumour pushing up on her organs. After a few days on the medication her breathing had improved & thankfully still is ok. And she is on the frusol long term also, alongside the Steroids.
Patch also developed Pita due to her anemia & she started eating the cat litter. Therefore we had to start using puppy pads back in December, which are costing a fortune.
At my last appointment, I was told that there is nothing more that she can do for Patch, other than continuing with the medication prescribed & her appointments will no longer be weekly.
Patch is still doing amazingly well considering how large the tumour is, the high level of bacterial infection & inflammation in her body. She is still able to get around, jump & climb, use the cat litter tray, enjoy the garden, enjoy cuddles & a fuss & is such a good girl. Such a trooper.
We have to take the vets word that it is a cancerous tumour & possibly an infected abscess surrounding it but my concern is that if it isn't a cancerous tumour, & is an infected abscess that in itself requires treatment but to my surprise, the vet will not he offering anymore antibiotics, blood tests, ultrasounds etc & the steroid treatment is part of her palative care & told that when the time comes when she declines, that the only option would be euthanasia.
On the 29th January, we are taking Patch to a holistic vet practice. She will have an acupuncture session & the vet will create a personalised diet plan & supplements based on all the test results & information gained from our vet. They try to get to the root of the cause of illness, not just treatment. There have been many positive reviews & outcomes of pets in their care & I am hoping that they can help Patch in ways, that our vet can't.
I want to do all I can to give Patch the best chance possible. Currently she is not showing distress or pain & this is why we have made the decision to get Patch seen at the holistic vetinary practice.
And hoping & praying that they can shed some more light on things & help make Patch as comfortable as possible, with a personalised plan suited to her needs, along with alternative therapy, which has proven to be very positive for many pets they've looked after.
We have raised an amazing amount of the target already & I am so very grateful to each & everyone whom donated at the start of our fundraiser.
The vet bill up until now has exceeded £1,000 & that is not including her supplement, meat & fish, alongside her usual food, puppy pads etc .. And the costs of the holistic therapy/vet costs & monthly cost for that there after, is in addition to what we've already spent & continued medication costs for her steroids, frusol & probiotic.
If anyone is kind enough to donate, even if a small amount, every little helps.
I am so very grateful for the donations that we've already received. You won't understand how to helpful it has been towards the cost of Patches treatment.
And any donations no matter how small, will help & are so very much appreciated.
Patch has been my companion through so many chapters of my life. She will be 12 this year. She is usually such a spritely & happy little lady. She loves baby carries & snuggling up for cuddles. She’s gentle, loving & always by my side. Despite all she's going through , she is doing very well but she is a very poorly cat & it breaks my heart that she is going through this.
Unfortunately, the vet bills for tests, bloodwork, imaging, & ongoing care soon added. And it does put even more financial strain on me. I wouldn't usually ask for help from others but this time I am & I am putting my pride aside for the sake of having the best chance of helping Patch through this. Any help — no matter how small — would mean the world to me & could make all the to Patch.
If you’re unable to donate, even sharing Patch’s story would help so much.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, support, & love for Patch. We’re hoping for answers & holding onto hope.
Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Patch’s diagnostics, treatment, & care. Even just sharing this page would mean so much & could help us reach others who may want to support her.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, compassion, & support during such a worrying & emotional time. Knowing that people care about Patch will bring me hope when I need it most. ❤️
