Hi, my name is Cristian, and our family's life changed drastically this September 3rd when my father, Basilio Parra, passed away suddenly. My father was a hardworking day laborer who was always available to volunteer, whether it was for community cleanups or distributing flyers to support the Cypress Park Day Laborer Center to attract more employers and support other day laborers. My father was 52 years old and attended the Day Laborer Center for many years, where he received support in connecting with employers and took advantage of opportunities to improve his English and receive construction training. My father was a very hardworking man, very friendly to everyone, and especially affectionate with my siblings and me. Every morning, he gave us a hug and a kiss before leaving for work, and at night, before going to sleep, but now we can no longer have those hugs and kisses. He always worked hard for the family's well-being; he was the main provider, so his passing leaves us not only with terrible emotional pain but also a feeling of emptiness and financial challenges. As a College student, my father has been my greatest support and inspiration. The lives of my mother and siblings have taken a 180-degree turn. My mother was suddenly left as the head of the family, and I was left without my father, having to take on an additional role at home to support my mother through this transition.
We created this page to ask for your support to cover my father's funeral expenses and to help us fulfill his wish to return to his hometown of Veracruz, Mexico. My father’s dream was to take us to his birthplace; however, this will no longer be possible. In addition to funeral expenses, your donation will help my family cover four months of rent and help us with other household, school, and food expenses while my mother and I establish ourselves financially, as our sole source of income was my father.

Hola, mi nombre es Cristian, la vida de nuestra familia cambió drásticamente el pasado 3 de septiembre, cuando mi padre Basilio Parra falleció repentinamente. Mi papá era un jornalero, muy trabajador y que siempre estaba disponible para apoyar como voluntario ya sea en limpiezas comunitarias o distribuyendo volantes para apoyar en el Centro Jornalero de Cypress Park para atraer a más empleadores. Mi papá tenía 52 años, por muchos años asistió al Centro Jornalero donde le apoyaban para conectar con empleadores y donde tomó oportunidades para capacitarse tanto en mejorar su inglés como capacitaciones en construcción. Mi papá fue un hombre muy trabajador, muy amigable con todos y especialmente muy cariñoso conmigo y mis hermanos. Cada mañana nos daba un abrazo y un beso antes de irse a trabajar, y en las noches antes de ir a dormir, pero ahora ya no podremos tener esos abrazos ni esos besos. Siempre se esforzó por el bienestar de la familia, él era el principal proveedor, por lo cual su partida nos deja no solo un terrible dolor emocional pero también un gran vacío y retos económicos. Como estudiante de Colegio, mi padre ha sido mi más grande apoyo e inspiración, nuestras vidas y la de mi madre han dado un giro de 180 grados, ella se quedó repentinamente como cabeza de familia y yo me quedé sin mi padre, teniendo que tomar un rol extra en casa para apoyar a mi mama en esta transición.
Creamos esta página para pedir su apoyo para cubrir los gastos funerarios de mi papá y que nos ayuden a cumplir su voluntad de regresar a su tierra natal Veracruz, México. El sueño de mi papá era llevarnos a conocer el lugar donde él nació, aunque ya no será posible hacerlo. Además de los gastos funerarios, su donación ayudará a mi familia a cubrir 4 meses de renta y ayudarnos con otros gastos del hogar, la escuela y la alimentación mientras mi mamá y nosotros nos establecemos económicamente ya que nuestro único sustento económico era mi papá.
