Quick Ozzie Update

Hi everyone! Ozzie is doing amazing after his full-mouth extraction 10 days ago. He’s pain-free, super snuggly, and so full of love! His favorite thing is cuddling, making biscuits and eating. In a couple weeks he’ll have his echocardiogram to check on his heart, but for now he’s healing beautifully and is one very happy boy. Thank you all so much for your support!

Update: Ozzie is having dental surgery on the 19th of August and an echocardiogram in September! Normally, they’d do an echocardiogram first, but the main thing right now is getting him comfortable and pain-free.

Please help us give this sweet stray kitty the second chance he deserves! The goal is to get him healthy and find him a loving home.

Thanks to everyone who has donated, your generosity has brought us to tears. Anything extra will go to Ozzie’s continued medical support.

A few weeks ago, I found myself in an unexpected situation with one of the local neighborhood cats, Ozzie.

I’d seen him around here and there over the past year, but never consistently. Then suddenly, he started showing up more and more. And it was clear something was off. He was walking funny, struggling, and just seemed really out of it.

Around that time, I started trying to figure out a plan to help him and turns out my amazing neighbor Bree had been doing the same thing! We both realized we’d started feeding him around the same time and had both noticed what rough shape he was in. So, we teamed up.

With help from the awesome folks at PDX Cat Trapper, we borrowed a trap and managed to safely catch him. He got into their volunteer vet clinic, and from there we were able to get him neutered (yay!) and also find out what’s really going on with him.

It turns out Ozzie’s about 2 years old, FIV positive, has a grade 3/6 heart murmur, muscle atrophy in his back legs, had healing wounds, missing teeth, swollen gums, and gingivitis. Basically… he’s been through it.

We brought him home to recover and he’s been staying with me since. I’ve reached out to a ton of rescues and shelters, but most are either out of funding or overwhelmed (I get it — it’s tough out there). We were really hoping Pixie Project could help, but with his current medical issues, they had to prioritize healthier cats. Totally understandable… but now we’re doing this on our own.

Ozzie is honestly the sweetest dude. He just wants love and pets — but even getting petted hurts sometimes, especially around his face. He gets so excited and rubs up against your hand… only to flinch and pull back because of the pain in his mouth.

We can’t in good conscience put him back outside. He’s not well enough for that, and he deserves a shot. So now we’re trying to raise the money to get him what he needs.

Here’s the plan:

$1500 for a full dental procedure from the same amazing vet at Vista Pet Hospital who did his neuter. They gave us a significantly lower quote than anyone else (seriously, they’re amazing).
$500 for an echocardiogram to make sure his heart can handle anesthesia for the dental procedure.

We’re asking for $2,000 total. If we don’t hit the full goal we’ll cover the rest ourselves, but honestly, any help is huge.

If you’ve got a soft spot for animals, especially the tough-luck street cats who got dealt a bad hand, please consider donating or even just sharing this campaign. Ozzie deserves a shot at being loved and pain free

Thank you!
Jenn, Bree and Ozzie
