Please Help Our Sweet Ringo Get Lifesaving Surgery

Hi Everyone,

I am devastated to share that our amazingly sweet and loving family dog, Ringo Raineri, is suffering from a herniated disc in his spine. This injury has caused Ringo to rapidly lose mobility in his hind-end. Ringo, a once energetic and bouncy dog, has quickly lost his ability to walk and be a happy-go-lucky pup. Ringo is middle-aged at 6/7 years old, being on the cusp of eligibility to receive critical care to save his life and wellbeing. In order to properly diagnose the disc herniation, Ringo is currently at Ethos Specialty Veterinary Hospital located in North County, San Diego (https://vshnc.ethosvet.com/). Ringo will require spinal cord surgery to save his life within the next 24 hours. Ringo still has sensation in his toes which brings us hope that he may have a successful recovery, thus we must act urgently. If he is able to receive the surgery, it is very likely Ringo will be able to walk and be a happy pup again.

However, the unfortunate reality of this situation is that this procedure to save Ringo is immensely expensive for my single, unemployed mother to cover. Ringo's vet care will total $12,000. That is a massive sum of money for a single mother struggling in a pandemic to pay.

Truth be told, it pains me to ask others for money in such a grim world as we battle a global pandemic. However, it is crushing to think of my mother isolated in California without her best friend Ringo and her children across the country in New Jersey. I fear for my mother's mental health as she is alone in mourning (as many have been this year). If he does not receive this surgery, Ringo would need to be euthanized. The thought of prematurely losing Ringo is absolutely crushing. Ringo is the center of my mother's universe, they spend their days together and he has lifted her up from so much loss our family has faced. From losing her beloved mother and younger brother, the one constant has been Ringo. Ringo never fails to make you feel loved, treasured, and like you're the center of his universe. The unconditional love Ringo has given my family cannot be valued. He is worth far more than his weight in gold.

Ringo came into our family 4.5 years ago when my mother and I went to our local shelter in Carlsbad, CA to inquire about volunteer opportunities as I was home from college for the summer and wanted to find a way to give back to homeless animals. We had lost my childhood dog Becky the Basset Hound several years prior and desperately wished to have the companionship of a dog again; however, we didn't think we were ready for the responsibility given I was in college in NJ and my mother was living in San Diego. Then, our eyes met the sad gaze of a dog who was cowering in the corner of his kennel. Something about his soulful brown eyes made us sit on the ground of the very loud, hectic shelter and try to coax him to us. He stood up, tail ever-so-slowly wagging, and came to the grates of his kennel and stuck his face against the metal bars to let us pet him. Sometimes you just know... and we did. We asked to play with him in the yard and quickly knew this was the dog for us. No more than 24 hours later, we brought home our 2/3 year old Shepherd Mix for $69. He was found wandering in the desert near Rancho Bernardo in SD County, his background unknown. We soon learned Ringo had suffered trauma in his previous life given how fearful he was of men, or really anything. He was incredibly anxious and simply didn't know how to be a dog. He slowly began to come out of his shell and learned to love toys, treats, and most importantly, being a couch potato.

This is the first photo of Ringo I took, you can see the grates of the kennel on the right side.

To anyone reading this, I humbly ask you to PLEASE consider donating to Ringo's cause and veterinary care. We are a small family comprised of my mother, my brother, myself, and Ringo. My father passed away 12 years ago from complications of a spinal cord injury. We have faced much loss and I ask that you help save Ringo's life. Clearly, spinal cord injuries seem to haunt my family. Please help us save our darling boy from this harrowing reality.

Thank you so incredibly much for your consideration. I wish you all well, a healthy and happy New Year, and thank you again for reading this post.

With Gratitude and Hope for our Boy,

Samantha Raineri & Ringo
