Hello everyone! We are Angie and Niko, fur parents of our sweet young kitten Smeagol. We have 2 brothers, Gandalf and Smeagol, born on January 03, 2025.

We are making this post with a heavy heart. Smeagol is extremely dehydrated and has barely eaten or drank for five days, besides the fluids and nutrients he’s gotten through IV. He is fighting a serious infection and his body temperature is below normal. He is currently being monitored and taken care of in an emergency overnight hospital by veterinary specialists. There is a big possibility of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) or other serious heart complications.

This started 5 days ago on Monday evening when he had diarrhea and was vomiting. We took him to the veterinary hospital first thing Tuesday morning, and he had already vomited two more times overnight. A blood sample was collected and he was put on an IV bag as well as being prescribed antibiotics and diarrhea medicine. Smeagol didn’t seem to improve much at all overnight so the next morning (Weds) we took him back to the hospital and he stayed there all day connected to an IV drip. There was some visible improvements afterwards; he was a bit less lethargic and he was able to urinate, but the next day (Thursday) his symptoms seemed to be getting worse throughout the day, so I stayed up all night monitoring him. Friday morning we took him to the vet and it was clear that his situation was still deteriorating. The vet contacted the specialists and we took him there right away. We don’t know what is going to happen but we will get some ultrasound and x-ray results hopefully tomorrow morning.

Current estimates for treatment costs are between $10,000 to $14,000 with the likelihood of further complications.
