Please help us care for Willow and Duke
I received a call from our local animal control officer about some horses that they seized from a very bad abuse and neglect situation. They asked me if I could take a very emaciated off the track thoroughbred.
Without hesitation I said yes of course. I did not know the severity of the situation, all I knew is that I had to help them.
When I went to the animal control holding facility to look at them I was shocked at what I saw. These were not horses, they were skeletons! I was horrified. I immediately told the animal control officer that I would take her.
When the animal control officer arrived at my ranch to deliver the horse she asked
me if I could take another horse also. Of course I said yes. There was no way that I could leave a horse behind to an uncertain future.
Now I have two extremely emaciated horses who require round the clock care. I am spending approximately $45.00 a day on feed, supplements, and medicine.
They both need to go to the equine hospital for medical care. The thoroughbred mare has an injury to her leg that requires x-rays to determine what is wrong. The black and white horse might be proud cut and he will have to be fully gelded.
We have named the mare Willow and the black and white horse Duke. They are growing stronger and gaining weight everyday. They have to be separated from the rest of our herd until they are healthy enough to join them.
We need to purchase a shelter for Willow and Duke so they will have protection from the elements while they are in the round pen.
We need to raise money to purchase more fencing. We will have to fence in more of our pasture to be able to accommodate 2 more horses grazing. It is very important to provide them with fresh grass. It also helps to lower our feed bill.
We knew the second we were asked by animal control to take these two horses we had to say yes. We had to save them.
Now we are asking for your help. None of this would be possible without your continued support.
