Have you ever had a perfect day? A day where the weather was just right and your surroundings were inviting? A day with good food, good conversations, and an overwhelming feeling of peace?
I believe many of us live for days like that, I know I do.
But for someone fighting a severe mental illness, these days don’t exist. Their most peaceful day is an average one at best.
We created this fundraiser in hopes of offering our loved one, who struggles with severe bipolar disorder, a chance to experience just some of these days.
For those of you who are not familiar with bipolar disorder, it is a very consuming disease. For years, I thought bipolar meant feeling hyper one moment and sleepy the next. The truth is, it is a combination of what they call manic behavior and very deep depressions.
When the highs are high, manic behavior kicks in. Many will experience days or weeks without sleeping or eating. They can feel paranoid, have grandiose delusions, and have larger-than-life feelings.
Once these symptoms finally subside, the depressive episodes come on. These lows can be extreme, causing deep self-doubt and self harm.
This cycle is deeply painful and dehumanizing for our loved one to experience and heartbreaking for us to witness. We’ve come to a crossroads and we know we can no longer fight this alone.
My loved one has been the epitome of kindness my whole life. I’ve seen them give when they truly had nothing but the shirt on their back. I’ve seen them forgive and love those who have contributed to their deteriorating mental health. They have more empathy than anyone I’ve ever known, even after life has dealt them some of the worst cards.
Now it is our chance to give back to the most deserving person in our lives. They can no longer fight this battle without professional help. Unfortunately, high-quality professional help is extremely expensive, even with insurance. All funds raised will go towards admission to a long-term inpatient facility, which has an 87% success rate.
For those who have watched a loved one struggle with mental health issues, had to worry for a loved one's safety, or tragically lost a loved one because of these illnesses, you know how desperate you can feel. Please help us support our loved one on their journey to healing and happiness. Let’s get them that perfect day.
Thank you.
